Spruce up for your home sale!
It's that time of year when everyone that is thinking of moving is preparing their home for a summertime sale. You've cleaned the carpets, painted the walls and even re-tiled the kitchen floor. Now what? Just step outside your front door... go ten paces towards the street...then turn around. What do you see?
If it's peeling or chipping paint, worn sidewalks & a dull driveway, sparse mulch and a few wilting flowers you've got a bit more work to do. The good news is that the weather is perfect this time of year, you've been cooped up indoors all winter so these inexpensive, "anyone can do it" fixes will make your homes' first impression a lasting one on buyers.
Replace any worn landscape barriers
Add a thick layer of mulch (we really like the red cedar for a pop of color). Mulch is the number 1 source of termites finding your home so spend an extra dollar or two on a bag of termite treated mulch.
Scrape and re-paint any chipping, peeling, or yellowed trim around your front door, garage, windows, etc.
Seal any cracks in your concrete or asphalt. They aren't just unsightly they can be a tripping hazard
Replace your front porch light if it is more than 5 years old. This inexpensive fix is a good spruce up
Replace/repair any worn door hardward. If you have a brass knob and kick plate, shine them up.
Check your front door lock. Is it easy to open? Are the striker plates properly aligned? Does it squeak or creak when you enter. You may use your garage as your main entrance but pay attention to the front door, your buyers will
Plant some pretty flowers. Choose varieties that will last as long as possible for current weather conditions. Most garden stores are happy to guide you.
Remove any garden flags, gnomes, or unsightly items that are not in good repair. You can keep that gnome if he's shiny. If he's all worn out, he's got to go! Best to remove any pink flamingo's as well!
Trim, prune & cut back all hedges and shrubs.
